Traditional Oriental Medicine is based on ancient Chinese theories of energy/Qi flow. Qi needs to flow freely through the body in meridians, like water flows through a garden hose. Just as water provides nourishment for the flowers to thrive and grow, we need free flowing energy/Qi for humans to thrive and grow. If water becomes restricted in the garden hose, the flowers will eventually wilt. For humans, the Qi flow restriction often causes pain and illness. Acupuncture allows the practitioner to redirect the flow of energy and balance the body back to its original health. Ultimately, with acupuncture, herbs, lifestyle modifications, and intention, we have the necessary elements to achieve complete harmony and health.

In Chinese Medicine, we evaluate signs and symptoms categorized as the root and the branch. The branch symptoms are often the acute signs of illness, like a headache. The root is the cause of the headache pain. For example, a weak immune system allows viruses to frequent our body. Treating the headache, may help with temporary symptoms, but does not treat the root cause, which is the weakened immune system. With Herbal Medicine, we can address the root cause without side effects and with the treatment principle of alleviating the headache by strengthening the immune system.

We live in a complicated world. We all need support systems to help enrich our lives and challenge our growth process. Often, we can get stuck in cognitive and behavioral patterns that are deleterious to our ultimate goals. If we do not have the correct tools to provide the support necessary to change the behaviors, we often do not succeed. And the vicious cycle prevails. Psychotherapy allows the person to have the support, structure, and appropriate tools necessary to succeed.
